Summary
  • The hugely influential, Nobel Prize winning critic and playwright George Bernard Shaw was notoriously reluctant to allow his writing to be adapted for the cinema. Yet thanks to the persistence of Hungarian producer Gabriel Pascal, Shaw finally agreed to collaborate on a series of screen versions of his witty, socially minded plays
  • Major Barbara: Barbara is a major in the Salvation Army, but also the daughter of Andrew Undershaft, a millionaire arms manufacturer. A comedic battle rages between daughter and father, posing the question: does salvation come through faith of science?--International Movie Data Base
  • Caesar and Cleopatra: Cleopatra hasn't been on the throne of the pharoahs of Egypt very long when Julius Caesar pays a visit. Caesar finds the prospect of romance more tempting than he expected, since Cleopatra is a rare woman who is bright as well as beautiful. And for Cleopatra, a friendly relationship with the most powerful man in the world may pay dividends in the future--International Movie Data Base
  • Androcles and the lion: Androcles is a Christian in ancient Rome who applies that religion's teachings even as they apply to the treatment of animals. Seeing a lion in pain, he removes a huge thorn from the beast's paw, creating a friend for life. Androcles and a number of other Christians are eventually arrested and condemned to death in the arena. They are to die by being eaten by lions. Is it too much to hope that one of the lions may have a paw that has healed recently and might remember who did it.?--International Movie Data Base
